Antonio
Politano is a photographer and journalist. As a freelance he contributes
with his reportages to several magazines and newspapers, in particular
La Repubblica and National Geographic Italy. Fond of geography and
travel literature, after graduating in Political Sciences, he started
writing about Africa and travelling beyond Europe, being particularly
attracted by far away destinations. He then travelled through all
the continents and lived three years in Western Africa working for
the United Nations. But preferring the freelance freedom to the international
officer career, eventually he went back to writing and photographing.
He has travelled to various parts of the world (among which India,
South America, Antarctica, South Pacific, Australia, Eastern Mediterranean)
in order to deepen some journalistic and photographic subjects. He
is the author of several publications, including The Colours of the
Light and the Travel Diary, of the handbook Travel Photography and
some TV documentaries (for Rai and other networks). He is the editor
of Sguardi, a photography and travel online magazine. He has won several
awards, including the Fujifilm European Press Photo Award. He has
exhibited in group and personal exhibitions in Italy and abroad, and
curated exhibitions of various photographers. He created and directs
the Master in Communication and Travel Culture and teaches in workshops
on photography and travel writing. He is the curator of the programme
of the Festival of Travel Writing. He has a blog - PhotoTravelling
– within the website of the National Geographic Italy. He lives
in Rome
